I have spent quite a bit of time lately trawling through the recently published scientific literature on thinning and growth regulator trials. Trying to interpret them is a bit like - tracking the view of economists and coming to a conclusion on whichway the world is heading. It's clear from the literature that there are a huge number of variables which impact on the response of thinning sprays and growth regulators. With the prospect of Carbaryl being withdrawn from our thinning programmes, the heat is on to find reliable replacement options. Most of the focus has centred around benzyladenine (BA) as the replacement post-bloom thinner for Carbaryl.
