摘要

This paper briefly reviews recent apple training systems (Axis System and Solaxe System) and discusses the evolution of centrifugal training (CT). Essential elements of CT are: keeping branches of similar diameter; training branches that will not bend by themselves to below the horizontal and removing branches that would hit each other along the tree row; removing vigorous water shoots and keeping lateral shoots to develop complex branches; creating a "light chimney" by removing surplus shoots from the trunk and from the inner zones of branches; and optimizing the number and quality of fruiting spurs by manually removing the weakest (interior and underneath) spurs. The need to adapt CT techniques for each unique situation is emphasized as well.
