Peter West, manager of Olympos Orchard near Te Puke where Psa was first discovered, had some sleepless nights over being the one who raised the Psa alert. He also manages Westhaven and Huntroyd orchards for the owners R.J. & K. West, which are Gold and Green respectively — a total of 23ha. "Following the initial call from MAF I had a few sleepless nights where I thought, how in the hell had I done this to the kiwifruit industry? This was a troublesome thought, as I contemplated the effect on our $1.5 billion industry. Had I done something wrong to instigate its destruction? Could this have been prevented?
