A field trial was conducted in 1997 wet season to evaluate some new fungicides against false smut disease of rice caused by Claviceps oryza saliva. Two sprayings, one at heading stage and another at flowering, were carried out. Among the fungicides blue copper 50 (0.4 percent), Opus 12.5 SC (0.2 percent) and Antracol 70 WP (0.5 percent) showed significant reduction in disease and recorded higher yield as compared to others.
