Association of quantitative traits with physiological growth parameters and yield in hybrid rice

Eleven rice hybrids and five high yielding rice varieties were studied for the nature and magnitude of correlation among various characters and to establish useful relationship among physiological parameters and quantitative traits associated with grain yield. Yield exhibited positive and significant associations with panicle number, harvest index (HI), leaf area index (LAI), relative growth rate (RGR), crop growth rate (CGR) and post flowering photosynthetic contribution to grain yield (PPCG). Itwas negatively correlated with panicle length, 100-grain weight and pre-flowering photosynthetic contribution to grain yield IPPTC). Panicle number showed positive associations with HI, RGR, CGR and PPCG, while HI had positive association only with panicle number and PPCG. LAI exhibited positive correlation with RGR, CGR and leaf area duration (LAD), while RGR showed positive association with CGR, net assimilation rate (NAR), LAI, relative leaf growth rate (RLGR) and PPCG. CGR bad positive association with NAR, RLGR and PPCG. It was observed that PPCG had strong correlation with panicle number, HI, RGR and CGR.
