Reformatsky reagents comprise a class of alpha-function-alized organozincs that are widely used as C-nucleo-philes in synthetic organic chemistry.These mildly basic species tolerate most organic functionalities and therefore are well suited for uses involving complex functionalized molecules.There are several different types of Reformatsky reagents.The most extensively studied have been the Reformatsky esters,but related derivatives of amides,phosphonates,imines,and hy-drazones are increasingly being used.Reformatsky reagents readily undergo transmetalation reactions with transition-metal salts.Consequently,they are useful intermediates in a variety of Cu-and Pd-mediated coupling reactions.
