Infectious bronchitis (IB)is one of the most significant highly acute viral respiratory diseases of commercialchickens in the world. We isolated, identified and studied the pathogenicity of anisolate of IB virus (IRFIBV32) from broiler chicken farms in Fars province. Trachealtissue samples of a field outbreak of respiratory disease in commercial broilers wereprocessed for virus identification. The 5' part of the S1 gene of the spike protein wasamplified and sequenced. The nucleotide sequence was found to have identity (95 %)with 793/B strains of avian infectious bronchitis virus. The isolate produced typicalembryo lesions including curling and stunting, suggestive of infectious bronchitisvirus infection after three passages. Infected allantoic fluids were tested by nestedRT-PCR and then, ELD50 was calculated. Tracheal ciliary activity using carboniferouspigment granules in infected chicken inoculated by 105ELD50/ml of the virus wasevaluated. The results showed the isolate could induce ciliastasis. Experimentallyaffected chicks showed mild respiratory rales and difficult breathing. The mostprominent gross lesions were observed in the trachea and kidneys of experimentallyinfected chickens.
