On 4 June, the Council of Ministers finalised its position on a new single directive to establish basic safety rules for protection against ionising radiation across the community. It will define a framework for basic safety standards to protect all citizens against threats from nuclear radiation, the safe management of radioactive sources and steps to be taken in an emergency exposure scenario. It is expected to enter into force in all member states in late 2017.~1
