Aerospace applications of advanced composites materials and the necessary technologies for placing these materials into the marketplace are well known. Advances in technology continue to move into applications at a fairly rapid pace for a number of reasons, one being weight-savings as a critical necessity. Education also has played an important function in advancing materials and manufacturing technology in the aerospace market - probably more so than in the infrastructure market. If one looks at various technical conferences (SAMPE and numerous others), the quantity of actual, practical infrastructure design, materials and manufacturing applications papers and presentations are significantly lower in volume than those addressing aerospace applications. As a composites-oriented industry, the advanced composites technology has not reached a similar peak in infrastructural applications. A significant market still needs attention with potential applications yet to be realized.
