The development of CFRP (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) for a lighter weigt car body shell is described in this paper. In order to reduce production cos pultrusion was evaluated for the production of outside panels. Using the pultmde panels, a six m long full size car body shell was constructed and its strength an rigidity were checked. The strength characteristics at high temperatures of phem CFRP were also investigated. The CFRP car body shell is realistic in terms production cost, non-flammability, strength, and rigidity.
