Fiber-reinforced composites offer a number of attractive material properties, most prominently high stiffness and strength combined with low mass density. Therefore, they have been the materials of choice for space and military aircraft applications for a long time and are now conquering the conservative realm of commercial transportation. In the aerospace industry a cost overrun from 500?/kg reduced weight is accepted, whereas in the automobile industry only S euros/kg~1. In this context the cost efficient production of fiber-reinforced plastic (FRP) components for structural applications is a great demand of the aerospace, wind energy and especially automobile industries.
