The development of the satellite platforms by Maersk Oil with the constantly improved generations of satellite platforms from the earliest ones via the unmanned STAR (Slim Tripod Adapted for Rig Installation) platform to the present day concept of very simple platform and their operation is reviewed both from a concept definition and from an operational point of view.
