摘要

The first thirteen reports for the local authority areas where the native woodland field survey work has been completed have now been published. The reports summarise the data collected and present it graphically to assist in its interpretation. Behind these graphics is a large dataset of information describing the native, nearly native and planted woods on ancient woodland sites (PAWS) surveyed. This includes information relating to constituent habitat type(s), the tree and shrub species present and a wide range of other attributes for the sites. The published Native Woodland Survey of Scotland (NWSS) data is available for viewing and interrogating on Forestry Commission Scotland's web-based Map Viewer (www.forestry.gov.uk) and as a spatial dataset. The NWSS web pages also contain a full description of the dataset, a copy of the survey plan, the field data collection methods and the published local authority summary reports. The remaining summary reports will be published in batches every six months as the field work is completed in those areas. Reports on all 32 local authority areas, along with a Scotland wide report and map, are expected to be completed during 2013.
