摘要

The new National Tree Collections of Scotland (NTCS) initiative held its first seminar for members at Dunkeld House Hotel on Thursday 26th April. (Members will recall this as the location of the RSFS 150th anniversary excursion in 2004.) It was attended by some thirty people from estate owners and their forest managers to forestry agents, FC, local authority tree officers, Historic Scotland, and voluntary organisations from across Scotland. There was a good representation from the formal botanic gardens - Glasgow, RBGE, Benmore, Aberdeen etc. It was notable that the Hilton Hotel itself, represented by its General Manager, Mike Metcalfe, hosted the day and the hotel management was interested and actively involved in the forestry management of the estate. They saw the economic value of the interpretation and access benefits for guests and conference delegates, and a leaflet, Hilton Dunkeld House Big Tree Trail is now being updated. RSFS was represented by our President, Simon Blackett, Vice President, the Hon. William Crawford, and members.
