This study describes the effect of exogenously applied methyl jasmonate (JA-Me) on the biosynthesis and composition of phospholipids in germinating yellow lupine seeds (cv. Teo). H-3-sodium acetate was used as the phospholipid biosynthesis precursor and JA-Me was added to the incubation mixture at 10(-5), 10(-4) and 10(-3) M concentrations. The embryonic axes of 48-hour seedlings and cotyledons were analysed separately, and seeds germinated in water were used as controls in the investigation of germination capacity and rate analysis. The intensity of phospholipid biosynthesis was dependent on growth regulator concentration. After two days germination, 10(-4) and 10(-3) M JA-Me reduced germination and the level of phospholipids in seedlings, with the exception of phosphatidylserine and phosphatidylglycerol. Phosphatidylcholine (PC) biosynthesis inhibition had a linear correlation with increasing growth regulator concentration, and 10(-3)M JA-Me concentration caused a significant decrease in biosynthesis of phosphatidylinositol, phosphatidylethanolamine, PC and phosphatidic acid in the embryonic axes.
