Following the promising results in terms of low NOx emissions achieved in many reheating furnaces equipped with the Flexy-Tech~R Flameless burners, Tenova completed the combustion research program integrating the flameless technology with regenerative systems capable of obtaining a high temperature air preheating.As a result the new family of Regenerative Flameless burners was developed. Honeycombs and ceramic balls beds were considered among the alternatives for a high efficient regenerator technology. The development program was structured into different activities, starting from CFD modeling to laboratory tests and finally long run tests on various industrial furnaces. All these activities demonstrated that Tenova Regenerative Flameless burners achieve a remarkable reduction in NOx emissions (less than 35 ppm with 3% O_2 in dry flue gas and furnace temperature 1250℃) coupled with significant energy savings. The application on an industrial RHF and the main results are herein presented.
