A group environmental organizations filed in June a legal challenge against the U.S. government, alleging that Shell Oil Co.'s (Houston, Texas) BOEMRE-approved plans to drill five exploratory wells in the Gulf of Mexico were not sufficient and that the government's risk calculations were flawed. Shell Offshore Inc.'s exploration plan includes five proposed exploratory wells in approximately 7,160 to 7,259 feet water depth.
