Under a contract to the Russian Federation, DCNS (Paris, France) began in February the construction of the first of two BPC-type, or landing helicopter dock-type, vessels at STX France SA's (Saint-Nazaire, France) shipyard.The contract calls for the delivery to Russia of two BPC-type vessels along with associated services, including initial logistics, training and technology transfers. DCNS will act as prime contractor for BPC construction and the integration of the ship's operations management and communications systems, with STX France subcontracted for shipbuilding.
