REACTION SINTERING OF PARTIALLY REACTED SYSTEM FOR PZT CERAMICS VIA A HIGH-ENERGY BALL MILLING

摘要

A partially reacted mixture comprising PZT phase and the starting oxides has been successfully synthesized via a high-energy bail milling process by controlling the milling time within the second milling stage. The partially reacted system exhibited a sintering reaction when sintered at elevated temperature. Fully dense PZT ceramics with 99.2 percent of the theoretic density have been achieved from the partially reacted mixture at a sintering temperature of 1100 deg C for 1 h. The good dielectric (K = 1460, #delta# = 1.5 percent) and ferroelectric (P_r = 24.5 #mu#C/cm~2, E_c = 12 kV/cm) properties of the sintered PZT ceramic measured in the present work are in good agreement with the widely reported results of other processing techniques in the literature, indicating that high-energy milling process is a promising and flexible technique for the preparation of PZT ceramics. This concept of reaction sintering may also be applied to the other ceramic meterials.
