摘要

While the mechanical deformation mechanisms ofmaterials based on constitutive laws and dislocation theories areextensively investigated, less attention has been paid to thecorrelation between the flow stress and the post-deformationhardness. An attempt has been made to establish such arelationship by incorporating thc compression tests at differenttemperatures and strain rates in 0.5Mg, 1.0Mg and 3.0Mg alloysand the hardness measurements on the deformed samples. Itseems that the post-deformation hardness has an intrinsicconnection with temperature and the strain rate, and hence with theZ parameter. Meanwhile, like dislocation density, the post-deformation hardness is proportional to strain. These featuresmake the post-deformation hardness act as a microstructuralvariable in delineating the flow stress evolution duringdeformation. A simple correlation has been established, throughwhich the true flow stress at certain true strain level ( epsilon )during hot compression deformation of three Al-Mg alloys atdifferent conditions ( epsilon and T) can be predicted by relating tothe post-deformation Vickers hardness.
