Submerged plate tectonic boundaries are some of the most dynamic geologic environments on the planet,and yet cannot be monitored by traditional geodetic techniques.Typically,strain accumulation and stress release on the seafloor have been estimated using seismic slip records or land geodetic techniques.Seismic slip events many not cover an entire seismic cycle,and do not account for aseismic deformation.In addition,earthquake displacements on the sea-floor may represent only a fraction of the total deformation.
