摘要

Tea mosquito bug (TMB) is one of the major pests of cashew and can cause maximum yield reduction by damaging tender shoot, inflorescence and immature nuts and apples at various stages of development. The adult females insert the eggs inside tender plant tissues. Both nymphs and adults suck the sap from above parts and the points of feeding (damage) area can be identified by occurrence of brown or dark brown lesions/patches leading to severe blighting. The affected tree presents burnt up appearance. Under severe outbreak condition, yield loss up to 100% was reported (Sundaraju and Sundarababu, 1999). At present, monocrotophos (0.05%) and carbaryl (0.1%) having highest residual action for seven days are recommended as most effective insecticides for management of 1MB on cashew (Sundararaju et ai, 1999). As the manufacture of monocrotophos is already banned in India and carbaryl is reported to be relatively more toxic to honey bees (Atkins et al, 1981), there is an urgent necessacity to evaluate alternative insecticides comparable with recommended insecticide in controlling TMB. Hence, attempts were made to evaluate some more insecticides in this experiment.
