摘要

The cashew, being a cross pollinated in nature and heterozygous, considerable variation has been reported among the genotypes for various morphological and yield characters with better scope for genetic improvement through selection and hybridization(Manoj et al 1993). In recent years more thrust is given to develop suitable technology specific to agro-climatic situations to increase the productivity of the crop. Hence, the preliminary screening of fifty two promising cashew genotypes each in six numbers were planted in 1997 in clonal gene bank adopting a spacing of 4 x 4 m at Cashew Research Station, Bapatla under sandy sous to evaluate them for, not only nut yield characters but also for vegetative growth parameters to identify growth habit of vigorous and less vigorous types to decide on spacing and intercultural operations etc., Recommended management practices were adopted in establishment and maintaining the plants. The flowering panicles were removed as and when they appeared during the pre-bearing period of three years. The vegetative growth parameters of the genotypes i.e., plant height, stem girth, plant spread, number of branches and laterals were recorded during third year at pre-bearing stage and is presented in the Table.
