In India cashew is one of the major foreign exchange earning horticulture crops with net export of 1,04,137 kg of processed kernels fetching total earning of 1,936 crore rupees annually. India stands first in the export of cashew kernels in the worldmarket (48%). However hardly 15% of the total area under cashew cultivation receives chemical fertilizers and plant protection chemicals in India. The remaining 85% does not receive any kind of manure. Only yearly once weeding is done in the area to facilitate better picking of cashew nuts. Indirectly cashew is grown under organic farming system with partial utilization of naturally decomposed cut weed biomass and cashew leaf litter (Crop residue) deposited in the garden.
