摘要

Cashew (Anacardium occidentals L.) occupies an area of more than 600 ha in the Andaman and Nicobar group of islands (Anon. 1990). The Andaman archipelago is situated East of the 90°E ridge in the eastern Indian Ocean. Infestation by insect pests is one of the major limiting factors in achieving cashew yield (Pillai, 1980). They attack the tree at various stages of its growth. The roots, stem, leaves, tender twigs, inflorescence, apples and nuts are damaged by the insects. Jena et.al., (1987) reported 196 arthropod pests on cashew from the world, out of which 101 species present in India (Rai, 1984). Sundararaju (1993) updated the list of Indian cashew pests which included 151 species of insects, 8 species of mites and 21 vertebrates. The present paper reports the insect pests of cashew from the Andaman Islands.
