STANDARDIZATION OF COMPOST MAKING FROM DRY CASHEW LEAVES

摘要

The carbon content in the waste mixture before decomposition was mostly above 38 percent which decreased later to below 36 percent after decomposition as the carbon was utilized by the micro-organisms for their body building. Thus the C:N ratio was narrowed even upto 15.981:1 in treatment T_(2+) The enrichment of the compost with rock phosphate and pyrite, which were the source of phosphorus used in the compost, increased the water-soluble phosphorus level upto 360.186 percent and 106.047 percent with T_2 treatment during 1~(st) and 2~(nd) year respectively. Potassium content also increased in almost all the treatments. Cashew leaves are coriaceous in nature and having high lignin content. Thus it was found that use of lignin decomposing micro-organisms in composting of cashew leaves proved further suitable for early and useful decomposition and C:N ratio was further narrowed between (12-13) : 1. The treatment T_2 (850g cashew leaves + 200g water hyacinth + 150g rice straw+150g fresh cowdung + 75gFYM + 75g soil + 375g rock phosphate + 150 g pyrite + 30 g urea + microorganisms culture) was found to be best one because of narrow C:N ratio after decomposition, high water soluble phosphorus content and effective decomposition of cashew waste following the proportion of composting materials employed in treatment T_2.
