Artificial reefs can be defined as any submerged structure deliberately placed on the seabed to mimic some characteristic of a natural reef.They range in structure and complexity from sunken ships to purpose-built constructions made from a wide range of materials.They have been deployed around the world for a wide number of reasons including coastal defence,fisheries protection and enhancement,and environmental rehabilitation.
