The single most important factor determining the health and sustainability of the ocean is the way business is done in the marine environment, as the tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico so clearly demonstrates. The ocean Supports a wide range of uses-shipping, ports, fisheries, oil and gas, aquaculture, renewable energy, mining, tourism, desalination and dredging, to name a few. Maintaining ocean health and sustaining its resources requires responsible use and stewardship by all members of the diverse ocean business community.
