Sonardyne (Yateley, England) has developed the Automatic Leak Detection Sonar (ALDS) to detect and monitor undersea hydrocarbon leaks for offshore oil and gas assets, the company announced in early February. The ALDS is designed to autonomously monitor 1 billion cubic feet of seawater from a single sensor location. It can detect leaks of 10 barrels of oil per day and one barrel of gas a day.
