The NOAA National Geophysical Data Center (NGDC), the long-term archive and distribution center for NOAA's hydrographic data, has created an online tool to convert a binary Bathymetric Attribute Grid (BAG) file to an ASCII XYZ file. According to NOAA, the number of comments concerning the inaccessibility of the relatively new BAG format led NGDC to develop this tool to provide users access to the survey data. The converter uses an open-source hierarchical data format conversion program to extract the universal transverse mercator position and depth data. To minimize file size, white space in the BAG is ignored.
