An analysis of the microstructure evolution of zinc oxide particles in the temperature range from 873 to 1173K produced by the spray pyrolysis method is described. X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared spectroscopy (IR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) ware applied for particle characterization. It was shown that twin-fluid derived ZnO particles are hollow spheres ranging from 1 to 4 #mu#m with the crust thickness of 0.2-0.3 #mu#m that is composed of ZnO microcrystals. The microcrystals' morphology, agglomeration and rearrangement during the process were analyzed by IR spectra in accordance to the theory of the average dielectric constant. It was shown that poorly interconnected assemblages of ZnO microcrystals with axial to radial dimensions close to 1, 2 and 3 are present at the particle core at 873 and 1073K. At 1173K the equiaxed ZnO microcrystals tend to agglomerate and sinter into disc-like structures at the core surfaces.
