Cashew (Anacardium occidentale.L) belongs to the family Anacardiaceae, a native of Brazil, introduced in India during 16th century. Now, it occupies the status of an important commercial crop. Nearly 1.5 million farmers are engaged in the cultivationof cashew whereas 90% are being women folk work in the processing units, besides, cashew fetches substantial foreign exchange. Cashew therefore, plays a prominent role in Indian farming, trade, industry and consequently provides sizeable employment.
