Kyle Cogan, in his letter "Keyless car entry & flat batteries" (page 6, October 2014) raises an important point: modern cars that rely solely on an electronic key for entry are at risk when the vehicle's battery goes flat. I wish to relate the following story to help readers, should they be caught in this predicament. We had the above situation occur some years ago when my wife's Mercedes 4WD developed a flat battery, after the lights had been left on.
