Prostatic diseases are common in the dog and can include benign hyperplasia, squamous metaplasia, prostatic and paraprostatic cyst, prostatitis, prostatic abscess, and piostatic neoplasia. Most dogs with such disorders are middle-aged or older and intact; thus, special attention should be given to the examination of the prostate in these animals. Methods to facilitate diagnosis of prostatic diseases were reviewed. Symptoms related to the urinary and gastrointestinal tracts are common in dogs with prostatic diseases. Signs of systemic illness, such as anorexia, depression, weight loss, fever, and septic shock, may also be noted. Locomotion-related symptoms are uncommon but may be reported. On physical examination, the normal prostate should be bilobed, symmetric with a median dorsal groove and smooth contours, movable, and nonpainful on gentle palpation. can include a complete blood count, serum chemistry profile, and urinalysis,
