The ability to feed animals enterally is an important ad-junctive measure in various settings, A percutaneous nonendoscopic technique is now available for placing a gastrosto-my tube in animals weighing less than 15kg. The placement device is a 40-cmstainless steel tube that has inner and outer diameters of 3 and 5 mm, respectively. The tip is flared and deflected 4,5 degrees to the long axis of the tube. With the patient under general anesthesia, an 18-F-20-F feeding tube is gently advanced down the esophagus and rotated counterclockwise at the level of the cardia (Fig 9). The tube is passed by the lower esophageal sphincter and, once in the stomach, is rotated so that its flared distal tip abuts against the left body wall.
