Harris Sherman, USDA Under Secretary for Natural Resources and Environment, hosted RNRF's Washington Round Table on Public Policy on September 14. Sherman was joined by Deputy Under Secretary Jay Jensen. They discussed several of USDA's current and developing management programs, especially those of the U.S. Forest Service and Natural Resources Conservation Service. Sherman described the American Great Outdoors Initiative, which consists of programs that connect all people (especially the young) to the natural world. The initiative was kicked off at a White House forum earlier this year. The USDA will provide the White House with recommendations on how to implement the initiative by November 15, 2010.
