Fruits of 'Nagpur' mandarin were treated with potassium sorbate (2%) + carbendazim (1000 ppm) with hand sprayer covering the entire fruit surface. Prior to this treatment, chlorine water (1000 ppm) was applied by hand sprayer to disinfect the fruit. Surface-dried fruits were packed in wooden box with rice straw, corrugated fibre board (CFB) box with vented polyethylene liner, CFB box without polyethylene liner and CFB box with rice straw cushioning with and without postharvest treatment. Fruits without any postharvest treatment in wooden container with newspaper lining and rice straw served as control. Data were recorded for the percentage of weight loss, decay, shrinkage and marketability as well as juice content, firmness, total soluble solids (TSS), titratable acidity and ascorbic acid content. Results indicated that CFB box with vented polyethylene liner preserved the freshness of 'Nagpur' mandarin during ambient condition (30-35 degrees C, 25-35% RH) up to 21 days. Postharvest treatment with potassium sorbate + carbendazim controlled decay to some extent. Preharvest treatment with carbendazim at 500 ppm should be given to reduce field inoculum causing stem-end rots as the postharvest treatment was not effective against severe and deep infection. Rice straw in wooden box did not control weight loss and resulted in high percentage of shrivelled fruits (31.95-34.08%).
