Peter I.W. Harvey, discoverer of OgofFfynnon Ddu, founder member of theSouth Wales Caving Club and its presi-dent for 33 years from 1976, died onOctober 29 2009, aged 88. He had beenill since suffering a stroke three monthsearlier, prior to which he was at Penwylltmost weekends; his was a familiar face tomembers and visitors alike. For most ofhis life he was a fit, capable, and inspi-rational caver with a nose for promisingdigs and new passage. At the age of 60 he completed the challenging trip from OFDI up to Smith's Armoury and back in notmuch over eight hours. He caved regularlyuntil the age of 85, when he and I wentvia the OFD I stream up to RoundaboutChamber, on his final trip in the cavethat he and Ian Nixon had dug into 60years before.
