The present study disclosed the presence of sexual forms, oviparous females and males generally designated as "yellow sugarcane aphid" in Mexico. Melanaphis sacchari/sorghi complex was taken from 200 specimens obtained from 20 of 29 collections from Sorghum bicolor (L.) Moench, S. halepense (L.) Pers., and S. drummondii (Steud) sampled between 10 October 2014 and 20 March 2015 at an altitude of 10 to 1950 m in three states: Guanajuato, Queretaro, and Sinaloa, in Mexico. Data on the identity, origin, and biological cycle of the M. sacchari/sorghi complex currently are insufficient and contradictory, and we recommend further laboratory and field studies on such topics as the holocycle, morphometric and molecular characterization of the species or biotypes, host transfer, and range of host plants.
