A K-OBM-S bottom and top blowing converter has replaced a VOD and ladle furnace for the production of stainless steel grades at Acciaierie di Bolzano. The new converter differs from the old in that it uses hydrocarbon gas shrouding for the tuyeres and can be used to produce a greater range of steel grades.
