Shri S.P. Sharma, DG, BIS has been appointed Regional Liaison Officer (RLO) for South Asian region with effect from 24 November 2005 to the end of 2006. As ISO RLO he has the following responsibilities: i) Assist the Secretary-General in representing ISO in the Region ii) Help maintain and upgrade existing memberships in ISO, to promote the establishment of new memberships in ISO and to actively contribute to initiatives for raising awareness of international standardization and related activities in their geographic region iii) Identify and analyse the needs and requirements of countries in their region in terms of international standardization and related activities, and to strengthen their involvement in international standardization iv) Follow regional standardization activities, including sub-regional, and foster collaboration between ISO and regional standardization organizations.
