Plastic pipes provide a sustainable and safe way to distribute valuable drinking water. Polyvinyl Chloride, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene and Cross-Linked Polyethylene are the main types of materials used in manufacture of plastic pipes. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a thermoplastic material has the longest track record of all plastic materials. The first PVC Pipes were made in 1930's. During the 1950's they were used to replace corroded metal pipes and thus bring fresh drinking water to a growing urban population. Pipes made from Polyethylene (PE), a tough thermoplastic material is used for a polyethylene broad range of pressure applications including the transportation of drinking water.
