Clad plates are an economic and widely used material for many applications. They consist of a base material, usually a structural steel, and a thin highly corrosion resistant cladding. This material is a good choice for chimney liners in coal fired power plants. It is a material which is used since few years and it is therefore not so common like others as brickwork. It is a high sophisticated solution with a lot of advantages, but for many people it seems to be an expensive material. This is partly true and combined with the fact, that this material is not so well known for chimney builders, makes it difficult to compete with other - more common - materials. This paper shows the advantages of clad plates and their possibilities to make the plates economy-priced by optimizing the requirement and specifications. This is necessary because all standards for clad plates are more or less based on the requirements for pressure vessels.
