China: Chinese imports of stainless steel totalled 1,204,200 tonnes last yean 29.6 percent down on 2007. Imports of hot rolled flat were down 47 percent at 355.500 tonnes, and imports of cold rolled flat down 13.4 percent at 584,700 tonnes. Imports of hot rolled from the EU almost halved (-48.1percent) to 126,643 tonnes. Imports from Taiwan at 20,213 tonnes were down 77.6 percent. There was, however, a 19 percent increase in imports from Japan (96,428 tonnes). Chinese imports of cold rolled flat from the EU were down 26.3 percent at 39,000 tonnes. Imports from Japan, the main supplier, remained stable at 200,211 tonnes (+0.9 percent), with imports from Taiwan, the other main supplier, down 13.4 percent at 176,018 tonnes.
