摘要

On the basis of research data, optimal temperature-rate conditions for the continuous casting of rail steel to billets of cross section 300X360 mm may be chosen. The steel temperature must be 1535-1540 deg C after evacuation and before supply to the continuous-casting machine in the casting ladle and 1485-1495 deg C in the intermediate ladle. The casting rate must be 0.4-0.55 m/min depending on the liquid-steel temperature. With increase in casting rate to 0.8 m/min or more, axial porosity develops and the liquation of carbon increase. To reduce liquidation in rail billets, magnetic mixing of the steel is expedient.
