ON TUESDAY AFTERNOON, June 19th, observers across much of North America can plan for a special event. High in the sky, the dark edge of the waxing crescent Moon will occult lst-magnitude Regulus. Then up to an hour or so later the star will pop out from behind the Moon's bright limb. The events happen in broad daylight for much of the continent, which means you'll need a telescope, but some southeasterners get to watch in twilight, when the star will be increasingly easy to view as the evening sky darkens.
