THE QUADRANTIDS are the best annual meteorshower you've probably never seen — and not just becauseyou need to watch between midnight and dawn in earlyJanuary, the coldest time of night in the coldest time ofyear. The Quad shower is elusive because it's brief. At itspeak it can produce 120 or more meteors visible per hour(under ideal observing conditions), but the peak lasts justa few hours at most. And it has to fall in the early morn-ing hours in your time zone, which is when the shower'sradiant (it apparent point of origin among the stars)appears high in your sky.
