The association between acrylonitrile (CH_2≡CH-CN) and Ag~+ ion has been studied by Raman spectroscopy. The region of the ν(CsN) fundamental, including the new feature attributed to cation-associated acrylonitrile, has been recorded over a temperature range 238 -343 K, with concentrations between 1.0 and 6.0 m silver ion (as silver nitrate), The wavenumber of the new band (2249 cm~(-1) displaced about + 20 cm~(-1) from the bulk solvent C≡N stretching) was independent of the concentiation. althougha small temperature effect was detected. The evolution of the associated acrylonitrile concentiation with temperature suggests a flimsy solvation sphere. The experimental results are interpreted in dynamic terms, assuming a general equilibrium between positively and negatively solvated silver ions.
