The buying strategy for carbon products is to get ready to jump in. Sheet is down over 100 dollars from its peak. Prices are getting attractive if you have current needs, but another 50-80 dollars drop is likely by the end of summer, so don't hurry. Bargains will be available in the third quarter but prices will rise again into 2012. Look to lock in base prices in the third quarter, or even pre-buy if you have the financing and warehousing space. Stainless is stable to slightly down for the remainder of 2011. Prices should decline very modestly so there is little advantage either to waiting or to pre-buying.
