Diagnostic accuracy concerning the depth of tumor invasion (T-stage) is crucial for therapeutic decision making and oncologic outcomes of patients with solid cancer. In gastric cancer treatment, decisions between endoscopic resection (Tim [mucosal] and selected Tlsm [small sub-mucosal good differentiated cancer]) and open or laparo-scopic D2 gastrectomy (Tlsm, T2, T3, selected T4) and between preoperative (neoadjuvant) and perioperative or postoperative adjuvant treatment strongly affect patients' overall survival and quality-of-life [1-3].
